As you are looking through this blog you may be asking yourself "what is a non-traditional student?" This is a great questions! A non-traditional student is any student attending a college/university who is:
- 25 years old or older
- Married
- Widowed
- Divorced
- Has children
- Has taken a 3 or more year break in school
Do you fit into one of these categories?!
Now you may be asking "why are non-traditional students so important?" Again, great question! Non-traditional students typically have a harder time overcoming some of the obstacles that students are presented with because they have to juggle many more responsibilities that traditional students don't typically have. Here is an example of just some of the things I have to juggle being a wife and mother while going to school.
Because non-traditional students typically have a harder time going to school a lot of times they just end up dropping out so they have more time to work and provide for their families. The crazy thing is though that by going to school and earning your degree you actually open so many more doors and opportunities to provide better for your family! It can be a sacrifice to get there though so by helping ease some of those additional burdens that non-traditional students experience we can help them succeed in life!
